Tijdens deze workshop stelt zinester James Parnell (ook bekend als RaeZor Beam) zich als doel een veilige ruimte maken voor mensen van lhbtiqa+- gemeenschappen.

Tijdens deze intieme workshop krijgen deelnemers de tools om hun eigen mini-zine van zes pagina’s te maken uit (gereproduceerd) gedrukt materiaal uit de collectie van IHLIA.

Het doel van deze workshop is om gesprekken op gang te brengen rondom thema’s als zelfexpressie, representatie en activisme. Zines, door hun DIY-roots, zijn al lange tijd – en blijven – een belangrijk medium voor gemarginaliseerde gemeenschappen om zich uit te drukken, met elkaar te communiceren en kennis van de gemeenschap te delen.

James Parnell

James Parnell (ook bekend als RaeZor Beam) is een onderzoeker, schrijver en kunstenaar in Den Haag. Hen doet helend en gemeenschapsvormend werk door het faciliteren van workshops.

Verder gebruikt hen het proces van ‘zine-making’ om queer- en transgemeenschappen van kleur te archiveren.

Alhoewel hen momenteel het werken met beweging verkent, keert Rae vaak terug tot het maken van zines om hun ervaringen en de wijsheid van de gemeenschap rondom hen te archiveren.

During this workshop, Zinester James Parnell (aka RaeZor Beam) aims to create a safe space for people from LGBTQAI+ communities.

During this intimate workshop, participants will be given the tools to create their own six-page mini-zine from (reproduced) printed material from the IHLIA LGBT Heritage collection.

The aim of this workshop is to initiate conversations around themes such as self-expression, representation and activism. Zines, due to their DIY roots, have long been – and remain – an important medium for marginalized communities to express themselves, communicate with each other and share community knowledge.

James Parnell

James Parnell (aka RaeZor Beam) is a researcher, writer and artist based in The Hague. They does healing and community building work by facilitating workshops.

They also use the zine-making process to archive queer and trans communities of color.

Although currently exploring working with movement, Rae often returns to creating zines to archive their experiences and the wisdom of the community around them.
