Op 1 augustus 2023 is het 25 jaar geleden sinds het grootste lhbti+ evenement ooit in Amsterdam neerstreek. Tijdens Gay Games Amsterdam 1998 kleurde de stad roze. In de Prideweek wordt dat herdacht met een minitentoonstelling bij IHLIA.

Tijdens Gay Games Amsterdam 1998 kwamen tienduizenden homoseksuele mannen, lesbische vrouwen en biseksuelen van over de hele wereld naar Amsterdam om mee te doen aan tientallen sport- en cultuurevenementen. Internationaal geldt de Amsterdamse Gay Games als de meest succesvolle Gay Games ooit met ruim 3.000 vrijwilligers, bijna 16.000 deelnemers en in totaal zo’n 275.000 bezoekers.

Voor het eerst wordt het verhaal van Gay Games Amsterdam 1998 in de aanloop naar het 25-jarig jubileum verteld. Wat maakte de Amsterdamse Gay Games internationaal gezien zo bijzonder? Tot welke revolutionaire veranderingen heeft het evenement geleid?

During Gay Games Amsterdam 1998, tens of thousands of gay men, lesbians and bisexuals from all over the world came to Amsterdam to participate in dozens of sports and cultural events. Internationally, the Amsterdam Gay Games is considered the most successful Gay Games ever with more than 3,000 volunteers, nearly 16,000 participants and a total of about 275,000 visitors.
