samenvatting: This report focuses on the situation of LGBT persons in Morocco, including the legislative framework, the different types of violence that LGBT persons can be at risk of in Morocco, their possibility for seeking help from the authorities, organisations of the LGBT community, and examples of trials as well as conditions in prisons. It is based on terms of reference which have been developed by DIS in consultation with the Secretariat of the Danish Refugee Appeals Board as well as a Danish advisory group on COI. This report is an updated version of a Danish Immigration Service (DIS) report published in 2017. Both reports are based on interviews with sources in Morocco 9 to 18 October 2016; for the first report, the Country of Origin Information Division DIS conducted a mission to Rabat to meet with sources whereas for the present report sources have been interviewed via e-mail and over the phone in June 2019. The purpose of the interviews was to collect up to date information on issues recurring in cases regarding Moroccan asylum seekers in Denmark with regard to the situation of LGBT persons. Furthermore, a legal expert with experience in migration and human rights law has been contracted to compile information on the legal framework as well as on application of the law. Finally, a variety of academic texts, COI-reports and media articles have been included in this report.

Evidence affirming school supports for Australian transgender and gender diverse students  / Tiffany Jones.

Sexual Health (2017) 14 (feb), p. 412-416
bron: Sexual Health (2017) 14 (feb), p. 412-416
samenvatting: Abstract. Background: The United Nations (UN) and related UN bodies have recognised transgender and gender diverse (TGD) students' rights at the global level to full equitable access to education, and specifically sexuality education, repeatedly. Methods: This article explores the available support for this equal access in Australia. It discusses TGD student rights in a range of Australian laws and education policies. Results: It shows how the inclusion of TGD students, particularly in sexuality education, is reinforced in the current Australian National Curricula. Finally, it considers research on Australian TGD students' educational attainment, experiences of transphobic abuse and violence, and experiences in contexts where they do and do not have staff (and other) support. It also shows that contrary to the picture of TGD students as victims leading inherently negative lives often seen in research, this group is nevertheless capable of resilience and positive education activism, which promotes their wellbeing and social outcomes. Conclusion: It argues for a shift from harmful approaches of victimising TGD students or treating them only as victims, towards celebrating the contributions of these students to their schools and societies.

samenvatting: This document is an updated compilation of a series of resources developed by GLEN (Gay and Lesbian Equality Network), the Department of Education and Skills and the education partners to assist schools in addressing homophobic bullying and supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students. This resource is intended to provide support to key individuals as they fulfil their responsibilities in ensuring that their school is safe, supportive and affirming of all students, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students, students perceived to be LGBT and students who have close family members (parents, siblings, etc.) who are LGBT. The updated content in this edition includes a section addressing the specific support needs of students who identify as transgender. The assistance of the nongovernmental organisation, Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI), was sought to ensure that the information presented is both practical and respectful to the needs of young people who are transgender. The updated content was circulated to all the education partners, whose attention to detail in providing feedback on earlier drafts has greatly enhanced this publication.

Sexual and gender diversity in schools: Belonging, in/exclusion and the African child  / Finn C. G. Reygan.

Perspectives in Education, 36 (2019) 2, p. 90-102
bron: Perspectives in Education jaargang: 36 (2019) 2 , p. 90-102
samenvatting: Abstract: The school system in South Africa has only in recent years begun to more deeply grapple with issues of power and privilege along a number of axes of oppression including race, gender, class and recently, sexual and gender diversity. As a result, learners who embody sexual and gender diversity experiences spaces of belonging and exclusion in school settings. As a result, this paper asks: What needs to be done in the school system to reconstruct the "African child" to include sexual and gender diversity? Possibilities include inclusive policy implementation; inclusive learning and teaching resource materials; teacher preparedness to teach about and affirm sexual and gender diversity in the classroom and a clear rejection of homophobic and transphobic violence. The lessons learnt through the process of challenging racism in the school system - such as around essentialising, othering and systemic violence - have yet to be fully applied to sexual and gender diversity in schools.

Ghana: State treatment of LGBTQI+ persons

samenvatting: This report presents Country of Origin Information (COI) on the situation and treatment faced by Ghanaian Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) persons by state authorities. The COI desk-based research for this report focused on a wide range of sources published between 1st January 2017 and 24th February 2021. The report also includes information generated by interviewing a range of stakeholders in November and December 2020. This report combines publicly available sources and written or oral contributions by a range of interlocutors with specific expertise on lgbtqi+ rights in Ghana. This report is the result of a joint three-year project by Asylos and ARC Foundation to publish a series of reports that present new and innovative forms of COI, generated by conducting interviews alongside existing sources. All planned reports cover topics related to young asylum seekers, defined as under 30, in the UK for whom an absence of country information forms a barrier to protection. This document is intended to be used as a tool to help to identify relevant COI and the COI referred to in this report can be considered by decision makers in assessing asylum applications and appeals.

Health Equity & LGBTQ+ Older Adults of Color: Engaging Individuals, Communities, and Organizations.

samenvatting: This report highlights how state, local community organizations, funders and healthcare providers can make innovative impacts in health equity. We are living in a vastly different world than that of 2013, and this section highlights some of the present-day context within which we are doing this work. The United States is becoming older and more diverse. Yet, how we often talk about and intervene on issues related to diversity in aging continues to fall short of our goals and best intentions. This is especially true for LGBTQ+ older adults of color. Taking an intersectional perspective, we know LGBTQ+ older adults of color are impacted by the lack of support for diverse aging populations. LGBTQ+ older adults of color not only experience ageism as well as racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, classism, and other forms of marginalization - all of which impact their health, well-being, and economic security. As diverse populations continue to increase in size, much work is still needed to improve equity and the social safety net for diverse aging communities.
