samenvatting: The author relies on his own experience as a researcher and community organizer to discuss a Muslim response to homosexuality in the Netherlands. The article provides detailed information on the work of the Yoesuf Foundation, a community organization that aims to bridge this knowledge gap between the Muslim community and Dutch society, while specifically focusing on battling homophobia and xenophobia. Following a brief introduction of Yoesuf, the author discusses the organizing strategy adopted by the Foundation, including the emphasis placed on building alliances with international Muslim organizations as well as with local social service providers. samenvatting: This thesis focuses on prejudice located at the intersections of sexuality and nationality. Drawing on mixed qualitative research sessions involving men who are 'LGBTI migrants' from African countries, and who are living in South Africa, the thesis offers three overarching points of focus. Firstly, it contextualises and critiques historical state structures and attitudes which shape understandings of identity in South Africa. Secondly, it analyses everyday experiences of xenophobia and homophobia, as experienced by 'LGBTI' people who have migrated to the country for a variety of reasons. Finally, it locates these experiences within the structures identified and, based on participant-led discussions, offers a framework for understanding and suggestions for meaningful intervention.

samenvatting: This article discusses Pride Järva, a 'gay pride' march organised by right-wing publicist Jan Sjunnesson in Stockholm's northern suburbs. Analysing the event, and in particular a speech made by Sjunnesson during the parade in July 2016, I argue that it is indicative of the specific ways in which right-wing actors in Europe increasingly enlist LGBT rights in nationalist, xenophobic and racist projects of exclusion. As markers of tolerant and progressive 'Europeanness', they are used to construct and reproduce dangerous racialised and Islamic others along lines of sexuality and gender, a narrative that resonates with established notions of Swedish gender exceptionalism as well as homonationalist-orientalist narratives of threat and protection. Despite their history of actively opposing the expansion of LGBT rights, Sjunnesson and his political associates combine these narratives with a conceptualisation of LGBT issues as private and depoliticised to produce themselves as the 'true' protectors of LGBT rights in Sweden.

Emir van stichting Secret Garden vindt dat ze in buurten met veel migranten niet veilig zijn en dat daar dezelfde intimiderende en bedreigende sfeer hangt als in het land dat ze ontvluchtten. Een veilige haven vinden ze in Carla's bovenwoning in De Baarsjes. Een aantal lhbt-vluchtelingen doen hun verhaal.

samenvatting: This article examines racial discourses in (West) German gay publications between 1981 and 1992 as well as how issues of race and migration factored into AIDS activism during this period. While there were some attempts to organize against xenophobia in gay journals and gay-led AIDS activist groups, it was not until the 1987 Bavarian proposal that would limit the civil liberties of gay men and immigrants in order to fight HIV/AIDS that anti-xenophobia and anti-racism became major themes for AIDS activists. Throughout this period, highly exoticizing perceptions of men of color, particularly men from Muslim-majority countries, remained prevalent in many gay publications, pointing to the limited success of these efforts.

samenvatting: Vaak wordt bij homogerelateerde incidenten waarbij niet-westerse jongeren zijn betrokken, een verband gelegd met integratie. De gedachtegang: accepteer je homoseksualiteit niet, dan accepteer je de westerse waarden niet. Maar is het wel zo dat de vrijheden van minderheidsgroepen als lhbt'ers het alleenrecht zijn van westerse normen en waarden? Een man met een Arabisch uiterlijk wordt vaak aangezien voor homohater, ondervindt Bo Hanna. Maar hij is zelf homo.
