samenvatting: When Robbie Rogers stepped out onto the field as a winger for the LA Galaxy in May last year, he made history as the first openly gay man to play in a major US professional sport. Just a few months earlier Robbie came out, only the second footballer in Britain to do so, and decided to quit football for good. 'Coming out to Play' describes Robbie's experiences as a closeted gay man in the rampantly heterosexual world of professional football, his decision to come out and leave behind the sport he loved, and his subsequent decision to return to football and sign for the Galaxy. Robbie knew he wanted to be a professional soccer from the age of four and knew he was gay from the age of 13. He kept the latter completely hidden until he was 25 because he considered those two realities irreconcilable. In the sport he loved 'faggot' was the locker room insult of choice so for 12 years he practiced self-deception, and the pain of keeping up the ruse nearly broke him. Through what should've been some of the happiest moments of his life, including signing with Leeds United in 2012, Robbie was miserable. The more he succeeded, the more he realized he could never truly be happy pretending to be somebody he wasn't. Finally, in February 2013, in a blog post that received global attention, he came out to the world. Robbie's memoir tells the story of the torturous but ultimately happy and groundbreaking path he trod.

Partagé entre le monde sportif, dont il critique la culture homophobe, et la subculture gay, à laquelle il reproche l?imposition de normes corporelles, il semble encore chercher sa voie. Par-delà ses errements, une originalité s?affirme néanmoins : en mettant ostensiblement les corps homosexuels en jeu, il prétend s?immiscer dans des enjeux de représentation du « corps homosexuel ». Enjeux liés à la fois aux images et catégories mentales qui rendent a priori le sport et l?homosexualité exclusifs l?un à l?autre, mais aussi aux mécanismes d?élection de porte-parole ou de représentants. Homosexuel parmi les sportifs, l?acteur du sport gay et lesbien se veut sportif parmi les homosexuels. C?est de cet écartèlement que naît la possibilité d?un processus de politisation des mises en scènes du corps : émergence fragile et douloureuse dans un entre-deux qui cherche à s?inscrire, à se nommer, menaçant toujours de basculer d?un côté ou de l?autre de l?alternative rejetée.

beschrijving: Bokaal met een illustratie van twee zwemmers. Op het voetstuk staat 'Maurice Adriaansens Prijs, 1e Prijs 400 m. estafette, Vrije slag'. Maurice Adriaansens was een actief lid van de LHBTQ-zwemclub Spetters in Nijmegen en ook lange tijd lid van het bestuur (secretaris). Zwemmen was zijn lust en zijn leven. Hij nam vaak deel aan zwemwedstrijden (zoals de Gay Games in Sydney) en hij was ook betrokken bij de organisatie van toernooien. Hij is in het voorjaar van 2006 na een kort en heftig ziekbed aan kanker overleden. In 2006, niet lang na het overlijden van Maurice, organiseerden Spetters samen met Gay Sport Nijmegen een multisporttoernooi. Bij het zwemmen werd er ter nagedachtenis aan Maurice, en om zijn actieve betrokkenheid te memoreren, een bokaal naar hem vernoemd. Het winnende team van de 4 x 100 meter vrije slag heeft de bokaal overhandigd gekregen van de moeder en zus van Maurice. De 100 meter vrije slag was zijn favoriete onderdeel om bij wedstrijden op uit te komen.
