Open Up! is an IHLIA project about the history of LGBTI emancipation and development, mainly in central, east and southeast Europe.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It focuses on these countries because in these regions the LGBTI rights are lagging behind compared to those in many other parts of Europe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The archives and history of these brave movements contain unique documents. They can help us understand the changes in these countries and how they affect (or have affected) the lgbt movements and organizations. In addition, these documents provide us with some background on our less known heroes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Completely online<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of Open Up! is to make a large number of journals and organization archives digitally accessible worldwide. These include magazines, newspapers, professional journals and texts from lectures, folders policy memos, newsletters, minutes of meeting and press releases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entire collection comes from the cabinets of IHLIA\u2019s own archive, which consists of journals and organization archives, or it comes directly from archives of international, European and local lgbt organizations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project was presented at the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans & Intersex \u2013 Archive, Library, Museum and Special Collections (LGBTI-ALMS) Conference in Amsterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOTE<\/strong>:<\/strong> Due to privacy and copyright issues there are consequences for the extent to which you can access the material. Therefore IHLIA Open Up! makes the collection accessible through two tiers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to find the Open Up! collection in the IHLIA catalogue?<\/strong>
You can use the filters in the database to find the open up collection. Select all material types (or narrow it down to what you are looking for) and select open_up in the field deelcollectie, this way, only materials tagged as part of Open Up! will show up in the results. You can toggle ‘ja’ in the multimedia filter in the results to narrow it down to the actual documents and not just the general descriptions in our catalogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
