Deze tentoonstelling geeft een bijzondere inkijk in het eerste Amsterdamse dragkinghuis. The House of L\u00f8stbois ontstond in maart 2019 vanuit een dragkingacademie georganiseerd door dragtutor en -moeder \u2018Taka Taka\u2019 en \u2018Father Julius\u2019. Wat aanvankelijk begon als creatief onderzoek naar gender, leidde tot veel meer: een gemeenschap, een support system<\/em>, een familie en een vreugdebron die pride<\/em> ver ontstijgt.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kin<\/em> omvat een fotoserie door documentair fotograaf Stacey Yates \u2013 ook bekend als \u2018The Bill Please\u2019 \u2013 en is het startpunt van een breder project dat een persoonlijk licht schijnt op de ontwikkeling van een queer universum. Door zijn foto\u2019s te publiceren deelt Bill een vleug van de intieme, persoonlijke momenten met zijn dragfamilie. Tegelijkertijd weerspiegelt deze serie de zoektocht rondom zijn eigen genderidentiteit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De term \u2018kin\u2019 verwijst naar het begrip \u2018chosen family\u2019. Wat is er inmiddels niet <\/em>gezegd over queers en familie? Queers vinden hun gelijkgestemden; afwijzing en afzondering ontketenen het verlangen om als je ware zelf gezien te worden en hierom gevierd te worden. Om werkelijk ergens thuis te horen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tijdens de repetities van de L\u00f8stbois verdwijnen genderverwachtingen, waardoor ruimte ontstaat voor ontdekking, opwinding en ondersteuning. Club ChUrch Amsterdam is voor de L\u00f8stbois hun habitat doordat ze daar structuur, middelen, een repetitieplek, en \u2013 uiteraard \u2013 een podium aangeboden krijgen. Voor velen dient deze performanceruimte als een veilige, vrije en stimulerende omgeving voor speelse interactie en verkenning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het vinden van elkaar was voor de L\u00f8stbois als het ontdekken van water in de woestijn. Achter de zware deuren van queer cruiseclub ChUrch stichtten zij een eigen oase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This exhibition presents us with an inside look at Amsterdam\u2019s first Drag King House \u2013 The House of L\u00f8stbois. Born out of a drag king academy set up by drag educator and mother \u2018Taka Taka\u2019 and artist \u2018Father Julius\u2019 in March 2019. The House of L\u00f8stbois began as a creative exploration of gender, and became so much more; a community, a support system, a family, a source of joy reaching far beyond pride.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kin is a series of photographs made by documentary photographer Stacey Yates \u2013 aka \u2018The Bill Please\u2019, and is the beginning of a broader project giving us a personal insight into the development of this queer world. In sharing these photos Bill provides us with glimpses of intimate and personal moments with his drag siblings while simultaneously exploring his own gender identity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Kin\u2019 is used in reference to the term \u2018chosen family\u2019. \u2018What hasn\u2019t been said about queers and family? Indeed queers choose their own. Rejection and isolation births a yearning to be seen for who you are, to be celebrated for it. To truly belong. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the L\u00f8stbois rehearsals, gender expectations melt away, allowing space for discovery, excitement and support. Club ChUrch Amsterdam is the habitat for the L\u00f8stbois providing the house with structure, resources, rehearsal space, and of course, a stage. For many, this kind of performance space enables a safe, brave and supportive environment for exploration and play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding one another felt like finding a spring behind the rocks; like building an oasis in the middle of the desert, here behind the heavy doors of queer cruise club \u2013 Club ChUrch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
